About me

Hello, my name is Hannah and I am a registered Clinical Psychologist. I have been working in the field of adult mental health and addictions in a variety of roles across the NHS, HM Prison Service, and the charity sector for over ten years.

I have spent the majority of my career in the public sector working in prisons and forensic hospitals: helping people with complex mental health issues and addictions to overcome these; to manage their offending behaviours; and to work towards recovery. More recently, I have specialised in working with adults in the community with similar needs and aspirations. In addition to this, I have worked voluntarily for a charity providing psychotherapy for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

In my private work, I work with people who experience a range of issues, and come with a variety of goals and aspirations for recovery. More information about the types of therapeutic work I do can be found here. I have a particular interest in working with people (mothers usually) who experience difficulties during pregnancy, after a baby loss, or after their child is born. I also run a sister practice called 'Serenity Birth' running hypnobirthing classes to help people prepare for empowering and comfortable birth experiences.

I offer 1:1 therapy sessions, group workshops, ad-hoc professional training sessions, consultation, and clinical supervision to professionals.

My ethos

I strongly believe that varying levels of mental wellbeing and health are an inherent part of the human condition, which we all 'suffer' from. There are all sorts of reasons why sometimes we find life more difficult at times; whether that be things we carry with us from our childhood, or situations we find ourselves in as adults. Whilst sometimes having a struggle with our mental health is 'normal', that does not mean that the struggle is a bed that has been made for us to helplessly lie in. I am passionate about helping people to understand the mental struggles they experience and to move on from them to enjoy life as rich, full, and meaningful.

It is very important to me to appreciate that everyone I work with is an expert in their own life and story. I adopt a collaborative approach whereby I work alongside this expertise to help people move toward where they wish to be. I bring a significant amount of expertise in psychological theory and therapy skill; but this is only useful if we can bring these expertises together to create a new and useful understanding.
